Bono_3I’ve begun reading Bono: In Conversation with Michka Assayas.  The book is a series of interviews between the U2 frontman and Michka Assayas, a music journalist from France.

A few quotes from Bono:

"You rely on your lover, you rely on your friends, and finally you have to rely on God if you want to become whole."

(Recalling a conversation with his late father)
"He said: "You do seem to have a relationship with God." And I said: "Didn’t you ever have one?" He said: "No." And I said: "But you have been a Catholic for most of your life." — "Yeah, lots of people are Catholic.  It was a one-way conversation…You seem to hear something back from the silence!"  I said: "That’s true, I do." And he said: "How do you feel it?"  I said: "I hear it in some sort of instinctive way, I feel a response to a prayer, or I feel led in a direction.  Or if I’m studying the Scriptures, they become alive in an odd way, and they make sense to the moment I’m in, they’re no longer a historical document."

"I’m a scribbling, cigar-smoking, wine-drinking, Bible-reading band man.  A show-off [laughs]…who loves to paint pictures of what I can’t see.  A husband, father, friend of the poor and sometimes the rich.  An activist traveling salesman of ideas.  Chess player, part-time rock star, opera singer, in the loudest folk group in the world."

I got a chance to skim through it the other night at Scott’s and later at Barnes and Nobles. Great book!
Reading through the different interview pieces, I got a insightful look into Bono’s perspective on being a Christ-follower.
    A must read!

I just finished reading this book today. I loved it. It’s very inspirational. While I know Bono isn’t perfect I wish I was able to sustain my own beliefs to such a daily working level as he does. I guess it’s always a work in progress…
