Minneapolis Bridge Collapse

Aug 2, 2007

Today’s 35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis hits home with me.  As some of you know, I lived in Minneapolis for about 9 years and the first three years were spent living in an apartment just a couple of blocks from where the bridge collapsed.  I’ve driven across the bridge a million times and know the area well.

Anyway…  Just wanted to give a quick shout out to all of my friends in Minneapolis.  Sorry to hear about all of this.  Peace and comfort to those who have suffered loss.

My father-in-law works about 150 yards from this bridge, and fortunately stayed late to send an email. Nobody we know is hurt/missing that we know of, but we’ll wait until tomorrow to know for sure since something like 20 people are still missing. I work a few miles North of the bridge in Roseville, but thankfully had the night off of work.
For those who are interested, Mark Van Steenwyk ministers in this area ( ) and John Piper’s Church (Bethlehem Baptist Church) is within a mile or so of this bridge.

The atmosphere here is something else. I think we are all still in shock because it is SO close to many of us!
