New Man Monday

Sep 18, 2006

Ahhh…  I feel like a new man after a pretty rough weekend suffering from either food poisoning or the 12 hour flu.  Picked it up on Saturday and finally had to make the call Saturday night that I would not be at The Orchard this weekend.  Called my friend Ted to fill in and was bummed as heck that I wouldn’t be there.

Woke up Sunday morning around 4am and felt about 80% better, so I decided that rather than sit home and watch TV preachers, I’d go ahead and at least attend at The Orchard.  And I’m so glad I did!  Ted had a great talk and it was great to see and connect with everyone.

This morning I’m getting ready to shoot over to Lemont, IL where I’ve been asked to share our story of transition and church turnaround with a group of pastors.  I always count it a real honor to share about our journey.  The more I talk about it, the more I realize that even though there isn’t an easy formula or "5 steps to…" transition or turnaround, there does seem to be a handful of what I would consider "essentials" that are necessary in bringing about lasting cultural change in churches and organizations.  More on that later…

Big birthday party for our 2 year old today.  We’ve got a pony coming to the house to provide entertainment and probably a lot of poop.  Julia is so excited.  She was dancing around the bathroom this morning while I was getting ready saying, "Pony! Pony! Pony!"  Should be a good time!  :)

Gotta fly…  Thanks to everyone for their emails, notes and flowers.  Ok, kidding about the flowers.  But thanks for the prayers.

Happy Birthday Julia!!! Can’t wait to see pictures of the girls on the pony!!!!
    Have fun!
P.S. Watch out for the pony droppings, they’re not easy to clean off the shoes. Cow’s are easier than pony. That’s the one thing I don’t miss about the farm. :)

The pony is providing entertainment? What, like tap dancing or a puppet show? If it starts making balloon animals, PLEASE get that on video. Have a great day and enjoy!
Ted did have an awesome message that encouraged me in the particular state of chaos we’re in right now. Is it wrong to say…good thing you were sick? Seriously, glad you’re feeling better. That’s a miserable place to be.
