Beloved Community

From Mission Year Website:
“We take teams of young people, place them in an area of need, and help them to serve people and create community. We are committed to the command of Jesus to “love God and love people,” by placing the needs of our neighbors first and developing committed disciples of Christ with a heart for the poor.”

If we’re going to effect culture we are going to have to become a community.

How can we live together?

Paul – talked about a new culture….a new community.  Something exciting that people would see from the outside and want to be a part of.

All people can share in the wealth of the earth.

Acts 2 – Pentecost celebration from all over who gathered…  People were hearing the APostles preach and they were leaving what they knew.  They were staying together as a community.  They started to live together…  Have all things in common…  Sell possessions to meet the needs of everyone around them.  Went to the temple daily…  They went to each other’s homes and ate.

The miracle here is that they would gain one culture….one community. They started to meet the needs of everyone around them.  Needs were met!  Social justice element.

Problem is….  We don’t live together.

How are we going to live together as a new community?

We have been taught to respond out of fear and hate before love and trust.

Let’s have a conversation.  Invite me in.  Let’s be His beloved community.  This kingdom community.

I am actually checking in to see your thoughts on the Starbux surprise. I got the news literally inside of yesterday’s USA Today. When I went to Starbux to chat w/ the staff about this new news, they had no idea what I was talking about : |
