Star Wars Depravity

May 20, 2005

I have a major confession to make.  I have never seen ANY of the Star Wars movies.  None of them.  Star Wars, Return of the Jedi, Empire Strikes Back – I mean it, none of them.

When I was a kid I wasn’t allowed to go to movies.  We could rent them, but we could not go the theatre.  Of course, that all changed as I got older, but I still never saw any of the Star Wars films.

I’m now adding them all to Netflix queue and I’m going to have a Star Wars night in a couple of weeks.  The depravity shall end.

The deprivation might end, but it sounds like the depravity is just beginning! :)

scott, i’m glad you’ve repented of this grevious sin and enlisted netflix to help you with your problem. make sure you watch in the proper order: 4,5,6 then 1 and 2, then go to the theater to see 3. you won’t be dissappointed! ;)

  3. sarge says:

i can’t believe you would admit that, but it was big of ya. now go see them!

  4. I’m curious, do you plan to watch them in the order they were released, or in their “chronological” order? That is, the first movie is actually called Episode IV, whereas the three most recent are I, II, and III.
I would say watch them in the order they were released… If you watch episodes I and II first, you might not want to bother with the rest. ;-)
You’ll see what I mean, later.

OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!! I am amazed and shocked that this is even a possibility in this day and age. I would definately see them in the order they were made though. The story line and humanity of them definately decline on the newer ones. I think I saw Jedi 14 times when I was in High School and saw Revenge at the midnight showing Weds pm. Brutal though. Once again it’s always better to read the book.

Wow! This is amazing. Have you seen the more recent movies? Episode 1 and 2? If so, I think it would be cool for you to go ahead and see Episode 3, then go back and watch the first 3 that came out. You will have watched them in storyline order. I think that would be interesting to see what your take is on them after having seen all 6 in the matter of a few days.

Dude: you will certanly find out that the Star Wars films are addicting. I have all five that are out and went in and saw III today. I am certain that you will find them excellant indeed. You may even find stuff in it that relates to faith. After you watch episode 5 you’ll know what I mean. B-)

  8. Jesse says:

Why weren’t you allowed to go to movies as a kid?

Here are 3 of the 12 steps I think you need to take to overcome your position as a Child of the 80′s looser.
Step 1: We admitted we were powerless over being a loser- that our lives had become unmanageable
Step 2: Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity
Step 3: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of the force as we understood it.
You get the idea.. you can overcome it.. we’re here to help you.

  10. Noelle says:

Scott- I’ve never seen them either…don’t let these people harass you…also never seen: Top Gun, ET, Goonies.
    So there.

  11. Betsy says:

WHAT? You have to see Top Gun! That is a classic.
Goonies, not so much. ET… well, it’s cool to see Drew Barrymore as a young child, but the alien himself is creepy.
And I was 15 when I finally saw Star Wars for the first (and only) time. Someone found out I hadn’t seen them, and “educated” me. I will say, for the faith/religion aspect and being up on cultural references, it was worth it. But I don’t get the whole depraved :) obsession.

  12. OMG. I don’t know how to respond. I need some time alone to re-evaluate our relationship…

    4. Episode IV – Star Wars
    5. Episode V – Empire strikes back
    6. Episode VI – return of the jedi
There you have it – in order for your pleasuring delite! Ps. quit erasing my messages!

Scott, be sure and let us know what you think about the series of movies. I’m sure I’m not the only reader who would like to read your impressions of the movies since you’ll be viewing them with fresh eyes.
BTW, I was an A/G PK and I didn’t get to go to movies when I was a kid either. Like with you, that changed with time. I think the first movie I saw in a theater was “E.T.” when I was in high school. My parents took us while we were out-of-state on vacation.
