The Fear of Kiss

Jul 1, 2006

When I was a kid I was scared to death of these guys.  Oh man.  Their makeup gig scared the bajeebers out of me!  As far as I was concerned, KISS really did stand for "Knights in Satan’s Service."  (Too many "Peter Brother’s" backwards masking seminars back then….

Well here we are now – in the year 2006 and KISS has done it again.  Except it’s not the makeup scaring me this time around – it’s this:

Yeah, it’s for real.

Trust me, I am all for new ideas and the whole entrepreneurial spirit thing, but does this really seem like an idea that’s going to take off?

I’m skeptical for a lot of reasons, but most of all I guess I just don’t typically associate rock ‘n roll with coffee.  Beer?  Yes.  But not coffee.  Maybe this will go over well in Las Vegas and LA or a handful of other "touristy" areas, but I’m just not picturing people flocking all over the US to line up for the new Demon Dark Roast or the Iced Rockiato.

Then again, maybe it’s just me…  I am pretty tired and desperately need to go to bed.

  1. Scarry, well maybe. KISS is very good at branding and keeping their name in front of their fans for quite a while now. I see this as an extension of their plan. As far as the coffee, it does appear to be a bit of piling on to the coffee craze.

  2. The PETERS Brothers!!! OH man – nearly ripped a gut on that one. Oh man. 10 pts if you remember what they thought “Another one bites the dust” said when played backwards….

  3. Kenny says:

wait… am I supposed to laugh or cry?

  4. How is it that they missed not spelling Coffee with a “K”?

  5. Brad says:

Scary thing is that they will do well in Myrtle Beach. As a golfer/coffee drinker there were no Starbucks around that area last time I visted. Starbucks must be anti-carolina. Maybe Perry will get a Kiss franchise.

  6. backwards masking preachers. wow, what a ton of memories that gushes up for me. kinda like the feeling of having eaten a can of raw cream of mushroom soup and chased it with a gallon of milk.
my favorite was the ELO album with “In the Hall of the Mountain King” on it where they do some backwards stuff on it and when you play it back it says, “this record is reversible but time is not… turn back, turn back..” i actually heard a preacher at a camp in missouri tell us that that was satanic. dude, i thought that was a pretty good message. make the most of your time, stuff like that. like maybe find better stuff to preach about than the evils of backward masking.
fwiw, kiss really scared me too for a long time. mainly cuz they were satan’s knights. wow – the stuff we used to hear preached.
