Three Days of Rain

May 8, 2006

For our ten year anniversary, a friend of ours gave us an memorable anniversary gift – tickets for Julia Robert’s Broadway show, "Three Days of Rain."  And on top of that, our seats were amazing!  4th row!

So, "how was it?" you ask…??

The experience was great.  It was pretty wild sitting in the midst of what felt like the New York "elite" in the premium seating section (these tickets were NOT cheap, trust me!)  In fact, get this…  Sitting four rows behind us was none other than Donald Trump next to his lovely wife, Melania.  BEHIND US!  Folks, we TRUMPED THE TRUMP!

It was also pretty neat sitting so close to the stage and seeing Julia Roberts, Paul Rudd (Friends, Anchorman) and Bradley Cooper (Alias, Wedding Crashers) in person.  In fact, we were almost a bit too close!  I’m almost certain that some of Paul Rudd’s spit landed on my glasses.  I was ticked…  Now Julia…that wouldn’t been half as bad…  :)

The show itself was just "ok."  I definitely expected better chemistry to occur between the actors.  For some reason, Paul Rudd and Julia Roberts just didn’t seem well connected.  Some of their timing felt a bit off and they just didn’t seem to play off of each other very well.  To tell you the truth, Bradley Cooper was the best out of all of them.  To me, it felt like Bradley gave the performance all he had.  I didn’t necessarily feel that from Julia and Paul.

Of course, nonetheless, I do have to give it up for Julia.  She certainly didn’t "need" to do Broadway, but she went for it and made it happen.  Was she at her best?  Not really, but I still say "hat’s off" for taking the risk and breaking out of her comfort zone.  And Paul, I’ve always liked him as an actor, so "hat’s off" to him too…

Here are a couple of pics I snagged after the show while Julia & Paul were signing autographs outside of the theater.  (Click for larger images.)

Very cool pics. You were lucky to get so close to her signing. Your write-up pretty much mirrors my experience. I was in the third row and got splashed a little by the rain machine. Here’s my post from a few weeks.
