Weekend (This is a long one…)

Those of you who are in ministry will know what I mean when I say this…  There are some weekends that you walk away feeling downright sucky about how things went, etc…  Other times, things feel just right.  And then there are those, what I like to call, HOME RUN weekends.

For us, this past weekend was a home run weekend.  HUGE on so many levels…

Here’s a quick recap:

Chris Bell had an excellent talk that wrapped up our 3-week series entitled, "Doors".  Not only was the talk practical and super relevant, but more than anything, I appreciated Chris’ vulnerability and openness about his own journey.  I have a sense that it was a healing day for many.  You can listen to his talk here.

The energy this Sunday was so, so strong!  Lots of people and TONS of guests!  (Although, it’s beginning to feel almost impossible trying to figure out who is a "guest" and who’s not!)

We are now at our six-month mark for our "Makin’ Noise" vision initiative.  This is a 12-month plan to raise $250,000 above our operating expenses to invest in four strategic areas at The Orchard.  Yesterday, we invited those who had not yet committed or who wanted to increase their commitments to do so.  Without yet sharing the specifics, I can tell you that the response has been MIND BLOWING and I can’t wait to stand in front of our church community and share what God has done.

As a follow up to our Makin’ Noise commitments this past weekend, our music team did the song, "The Noise We Make" – STOMP style!  Garbage cans and all!  All I can say is WOW!  This is the second time we’ve done this (the first time was six months ago when we launched our Makin’ Noise initiative) and the energy it created both times was amazing!

This past weekend we also saw "Makin’ Noise" in action as we utilized our new screen system.  We have replaced our two side screens (standard format) with two widescreens (12×7).  We also purchased and installed a HUGE center screen (24.6×14) that virtually covers the entire back wall.  The quality of our videos this weekend were amazing!   And while I recognize that all of the technology, videos, music, etc… are simply MISSIONAL TOOLS to help us do even a better job at helping people step forward on their journey of following Jesus, I have to say…the "missionaries" are going to enjoy these "tools" too!  I can’t wait to pop in my Star Wars DVD!  :)

Next weekend we launch our third weekend service (Saturday nights at 5pm).
The timing on this is huge!  Our teams are ready and EXCITED…  We have over 125 people committed to helping us launch (not including volunteers) by simply attending Saturday nights for ten weeks.  Can’t wait to see what happens!

In
conjunction with our Saturday night launch, we are also starting a new
series entitled, "Suburban Myths."   We’ve promoted the series via
direct mail to over 30,000 homes in our community and have
distributed thousands of invite cards for those in our church to pass
on to friends, etc…   Without a doubt, the timing for our 3rd service
is HUGE.  Space is dwindling.  Fast.

So, other than that, not much is going on these days.  :)   But in all seriousness, I can’t even tell you how thankful I am for where God is taking our church community.  Less than five years ago, we were struggling to even keep our doors open.  Today, God is using His church in some pretty significant ways.  Even a year ago, I would not have imagined God doing what He is doing TODAY.

I’m humbled….thankful….honored….and so, so grateful that God has breathed his breath of life into our church community.  May we now breathe it upon others.

I have to say, I didn’t think a new screen would be that big a deal. Until I saw it in action. WOW was that awesome!!!!! And it was so much easier following your notes and scripture verses with the bigger screens. I could finally see the detail in the videos. Didn’t realize what I was missing on the smaller screens. Thanks for pursuing these tools.

I will have to say, after the pics of Sunday’s service and the follow up post….I was teleported to the Orchard. It was crazy!
Thanks for the inspiration to “Go Big or Go Home.”
